History
AFC was formed in 2002 to address the lack of equitable access of faith based organisations in the West Yorkshire area to resources and funding. Some of the barriers to access included lack of organisational and personal capacity. Whilst a number of interfaith projects were in operation, work was patchy and disparate. The desire to encourage community work by faith communities in a more planned and sustained manner therefore led to the formation of AFC initially led by the Church of England dioceses of Bradford and Ripon and Leeds.
Funding was also secured from the Church of England Urban Fund, Churches Regional Commission for Yorkshire and the Humber (see Partners) and more recently the Big Lottery Fund and Charities Aid Foundation.
